Long Meg, Eden Valley
Hand-painted silk collage 10 x 7.5 cm.
Long Meg is the main stone in a Cumbrian stone circle known as Long Meg and Her Daughters. The monolith stands tall within a circle of 67 smaller stones. The main folklore states that Long Meg was a witch petrified along with her daughters for dancing on the sabbath. The stone may have been named after local 16th century witch, Meg of Maldon.
This collage depicts the monolith in green tones with gold concentric circles against a dark orange and gold sky.
I work in silk collage for a crisp line and glowing colour, and strive to convey the atmosphere and drama of Britain's landscapes and monuments.
