The Kilburn White Horse
Hand-painted silk collage
On the western edge of North Yorkshire Moors the Kilburn White Horse was dug out and filled with white stone in 1857, and can seen across the Vale of York from Nidderdale. It's heavy body and delicate limbs put me in mind of the Lascaux cave paintings in France. I originally set the horse on its hillside, but then had it moving gently through different coloured spaces.
I work in silk collage for a crisp line and glowing colour, and strive to convey the atmosphere and drama of Britain's landscapes and monuments.
